This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I am the 7-8th grade Reading/Language Arts teacher at a charter school. My school is under resourced and 99% African American and located in a high-poverty area.
School supply lists are rarely fulfilled. In recent years, I used to draw up long supply lists for the first day of school. This year I hope to have the supplies readily available for my students. Most of my students fail to bring or afford the necessary school supplies. These students have been under resourced for most of their young educational careers and I’m doing everything I can to give them the tools to come to school prepared.
Many of my students need everything from paper to pens. I teach language arts/reading which requires quite a bit of highlighting, creating, and exploring. My school is an art infused school, which focuses on students grasping skills through the arts. They cannot perform at level without pencils, pens, paper, i.e. the basics. To insure that my students have opportunities to excel …we need it all. The simple school supplies that students are sent to school with everyday- my students are in dire need of.
I and my students would be very grateful if you would be willing to help us with donating and supplying my students with the supplies they need to be successful. Too many times, my students-young people feel the effects of lack, poverty, and rejection. This will show them that the resources they need to succeed are in hand. Your donation will help not only supply a classroom, but give students the assurance that their needs were provided. With your donation, you will make it possible for my students to believe in themselves as readers and writers, artists, and valued students. Thank you in advance !
