My students need electronic book timers so they can keep track of their independent reading.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a second grade special education teacher in a Title I school in New York City. I teach struggling, yet enthusiastic, 2nd graders.
One challenge I have encountered is getting children to read for any length of time. Usually, within five minutes of reading silently, children will start talking. Some children are even under the impression that they have read for far longer than five minutes. Though I stress that reading is a practical skill, one must practice in order to gain mastery. I still meet resistance to reading.
What is better than a bookmarker? A bookmarker that can have a timer attached to it. My children will be so excited and eager to start reading and STAY reading.
Thank you for your consideration and giving the give of knowledge.
