Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember being in school and being exposed to different resources to help you learn something new? With the current budget we are unable to acquire new books for our students. The books we currently have don't meet the needs of all levels, we need different materials to reach everyone.

My students are classified as ELLs (English Language Learners) or former ELLs.

They live under the poverty line, and every day they face the struggle of trying to master a new language and learn the curriculum. Their exposure to English is limited to what they hear, speak and read at school. Math is one area where they can showcase their skills, but only if they have access to enough books and resources to practice and learn.

My Project

I have requested different sets of books. Each set addresses the needs of different students depending upon their ability levels. The books that I have requested will allow me to teach students of different abilities. These different books will address the needs of children of all ability levels. When children can work on material that is on their own levels, they can improve the skills that they need to improve, not practice what the majority needs. This way, the weakest and the strongest students will get what they need.

In New York City, admittance to high school is determined by the students' transcript (much like how the rest of us applied to college).

Admittance to the right high school can change the future for a student. My students need every possible advantage so that their report card and state test grades represent their personal best. These books will allow all of my students (this years and in the years to come) to achieve their personal best. Thank you for your consideration
