I am an 8th grade Language Arts teacher at Dixon Middle School in Holly Ridge, North Carolina. As we teach our students to become better readers, research has indicated that recorded books on tape increas reading fluency, comprehension and vocabulary from 34%-77%. I teach a group of students on a yearly basis who have low abilities both in reading and in writing. Some of my students reading levels start at the 4th grade level yet are struggling on a daily basis with fellow students whose reading levels are much higher. My request is to purchase books on tape as class sets in order to improve their overall reading abilities and in turn will improve their overall writing. A class set consists of an audiobook, 10 print books and a sturdy carrying case. With your donation, my students will enjoy the ability to read and write as our goal is to educate every child. These young people are our future. Let's not forget our future leaders. Thank you!
