My Project
I teach a class of wonderful first graders who are at a crucial stage in their reading journey. In first grade, we begin with learning how to read easy decodable books and finish the year ready for second grade reading chapter books. It's an exciting transformation!
While we have many fiction decodable books, we're lacking in nonfiction options.
That's where this TpT project comes in. I want to add nonfiction decodable books to our class resources, allowing my students to learn to read while simultaneously expanding their knowledge of science and social studies.
These special books serve two crucial purposes:
They provide a tailored phonics tool designed specifically for beginning readers, allowing them to practice and reinforce the phonics skills they're currently learning.
They introduce factual information about various topics, building essential background knowledge in science and social studies.
By incorporating these nonfiction decodables into our curriculum, I'll be able to strengthen our students' reading skills by giving them texts that match their current phonics level, boost their confidence as they successfully read "real" books, expand their vocabulary and knowledge base across different subject areas, and foster a love for reading and learning about the world around them
Help me empower our young learners to decode words and encode knowledge! Your support will make a lasting impact on their educational journey.
