My Students

My students are 9th - 12th graders in an inner city public high school. Over eighty percent of the students are from low-income families. My biology classes consist of freshmen and my human anatomy class is an elective for juniors and seniors who are interested in careers in health care.

Students in my classes are developing digital literacy in addition to learning science content and practices.

This technology-raised generation loves exploring, collaborating and communicating through digital based inquiry lessons and gives them the potential to learn anything they want to learn.

My Project

My biology and anatomy students are learning science in a digital classroom. To supplement my lessons I post instructional videos and video clips that the students can access during class time. Students can watch and replay the videos at their own pace. Videos are a great way for me to reach my students who are visual and/or auditory learners.

Many of my students cannot afford headphones and therefore do not have headphones of their own.

There is not always access to closed captions on videos and when this is the case my students have to share headphones with their friends.
