Help me give my students updated non-fiction options for our library including sports biographies like "Barkley" and "The Rise" as well as books that support their trades like "Tools" and "The Cooking Gene".

My Project

Our library has been neglected and overlooked for many years and is in desperate need of updating. The average age of our collection is 1984, and with your help, I want to bring our collection into the 21st century! The students have been super excited about having the library be open so far this year and are flocking to this space during free periods and after school, but much of our collection is out of date and doesn't reflect current history or the experiences of the students in my school. (We had books that still had Jimmy Carter as President!) Our students are from all over Baltimore and many commute across the city in order to attend this school for one of the 22 vocational and technical career pathways that we offer. We are the largest high school in the city and serve a diverse student population including students from multiple linguistic, ethnic, religious, and socio-economic backgrounds.

These materials will help to continue to update the collection, make it more relevant and interesting to the students, and demonstrate that we value their identities and experiences.

Additionally, these materials will replace outdated materials and support students as they progress in their career or technical pathway. These materials will help increase the relevancy and interest of our library for the entire student body!
