Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is an inner city school where 100% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch. The students in my school range in age from three to fourteen and all come from diverse backgrounds. They learn, on a daily basis, in two languages, English and Spanish.
As a new educator in the building, I am trying to help change students' mindsets around physical education.
Many students are often not as active outside of school and physical education class is the time that I have to change that for them.
My Project
I asked a few of my upper-grade students (5-8 graders) what types of activities they would like to do for this year's field day and some of them came back with the idea of Zorb ball soccer (an inflatable bumper ball). I watched some YouTube videos and after seeing how much fun this is I decided to try and make this ultimate field day wish come true. I cannot do this alone but with the help of generous donors this could be a real possibility.
The twelve Human Hamster Balls (also known as Zorb balls or bubble soccer balls) and the electric air pump will debut as this year's field day main attraction.
This will subsequently serve as positive reinforcement for years to come. Encouraging upper graders to be fully vested in physical activities can be a hard thing to do. I am confident that the bubble soccer balls will be an excellent motivator.
