Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 6th, 7th, and 8th grade in a high-need, inner-city school. During the day I focus on students with special needs, particularly in math.
Last year I started a knitting club. I was able to teach the basics, and each student walked away with a scarf for themselves right in time for the winter season. This year, the students and I would like to continue the club, but our funding has been cut.
We are in need of materials. The needles purchased last year are still usable, but yarn is very expensive. My students would like to take what they have learned, and share their joy for knitting with others. They have decided that any projects they make will be donated to a local shelter or hospital.
Your generosity will help my students learn more about what it means to give back to their community. What they are receiving from you will be taken and made into a final product which will be given to someone more in need then they are.
