This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a Title I Science Technology Engineering Mathematics school in Ogden, Utah where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.

My students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom.

Despite the many challenges they face, my students are eager to learn and curious about the world around them. They want to be in school so they are successful college and career ready individuals.

I am looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences where they can imagine, discover, and persevere.

My Project

Coding is now part on the primary curriculum in many states and countries. That’s scary to most parents and teachers whose knowledge of coding is pretty much non existent.

Sphero is a robot ball that helps teach kids (and adults) how to program, from the basics to complex text-based coding.

It’s incredibly fun, and a real innovation in the education sphere.

Kids get to learn about coding and programming basics through the use of Sphero Macrolab. The Microlab lets you assemble sequences of predefined macros for Sphero to execute, and orbBasic lets you program behaviors for Sphero using the BASIC language.

Kids soon forget they are learning to code, and just see programming for exactly what it is: a series of commands that make things happen. And because it’s such fun all the fear of coding quickly vanishes.

These students are the students of the future. In order to be on the cutting edge building 21st century skills, we need to give them experiences that will help them do this. This is one experience that will help hundreds of students over the next few years.
