All of my students are visually impaired or blind. All of our students qualify for the free lunch program. Many parents can not afford to provide snacks. The snacks will be used for classrooms in which my students participate. By sharing snacks, all children feel included. It is also a learning activity for children that are blind as they navigate around the room to pass snacks to each student. We are also a nut free school due to children with severe allergies. This makes it more of a challenge for parents to send appropriate food items.
They are all so thankful for anything that someone does for them.
They are truly my sunshine and remind me to appreciate life.
Students can't learn when hungry. When their stomachs are growling, it makes it difficult for them to concentrate on their lessons. Our school is in a low-income area and many parents can't afford to send in snacks.
Parents also find it challenging to find approved snacks due to children with severe nut allergies.
This makes it even more challenging for parents to send appropriate food items. Animal crackers or Goldfish crackers can make all the difference so children can enjoy their snacks and concentrate on reading, math or other core concepts.
Children appreciate when donors make projects possible. We use this as a learning experience in many ways. We use writing skills through thank you notes or letters. We often use the cost of the items in math lessons. We also discuss the importance of paying it forward just as someone has helped us.
