Having access to hands-on, engaging STEM materials that are student friendly, is not easy for my students to come by. Dakota and Lyndsey are only two of the creative students helping to design this hands-on project which will capture all students' attention and help them remember concepts forever!
Education is what remains after one has forgotten everything he learned in school ~Albert Einstein. My students found out that I am building roller coasters with my freshmen, and now, my anatomy students have developed their own plan to utilize sets of K'NEX to build a human body! They want to build all structures with K'NEX, and then build the organs with Play Doh. How creative are they!!
A hallmark of science is that it generates theories and laws that must be consistent with observations. Much of the evidence from these observations is collected during investigations and hands-on learning activities. My students continually assist me in researching low-cost methods to prove theories involved in our scientific explorations. During this research, they discovered the many ways that K'NEX and Play Doh could be utilized in science exploration.
In Their Own Words
Our goal is to increase our knowledge of the structure of the human body. Through hands-on learning, we will create a life size human body out of K'NEX and Play Doh. We will make all structures out of K'NEX and then organs out of Play Doh.
This will help us become a leader by working in small groups on certain systems while collaborating and supporting each other. Working together, we as students will become masters in the knowledge of a particular organ system allowing us to become teachers to other groups and become proficient in that organ system.
This project is important to our community because we will have fun with hands-on learning without the tedious time spent on diagrams and questions out of our book. This project will bring to life the experience that we do not get from a book.
