As students who live in the center of the city, the kids in my class come with a wide array of experiences and backgrounds. Each student brings with them their own family culture creating a diverse environment where learning extends past the academics. In my classroom, I encourage a challenging and engaging experience where students learn empathy, kindness, and critical thinking every single day.
Even though our school landscape is completely new this year, I am very excited to create a classroom where students feel safe, welcomed, and challenged.
My Project
Because my students will be in Kindergarten, they require a highly hands-on experience to most effectively learn. Even from their homes, I don't want my students' kindergarten experience to be sitting and staring all day long. This project includes materials they can use in their homes to create, manipulate, and explore. I want each of my students to have access to a school-in-a-box. This is what they will use each day in conjunction with their online lessons. Instead of hearing about the letter C, they will create the letter C. Instead of watching me count pictures on a screen, they will count real manipulatives in front of them.
