The carpet in a classroom is a place where all students come together every day for community and learning. Students need this place to convene every morning and afternoon so that they all feel included during morning and closing meeting. They also need this space throughout the day to learn in a cozy setting so that I can reach every student during a lesson. The first grade students in my classroom in the upcoming school year will need multiple places to gather and learn. A carpet is the most important resource to make a classroom feel like a student's second home.
