Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students attend a Title I school where 90% receive free or reduced-priced meals. Close to 50% of our school's students are English Language Learners (ELL). In my class, over half of my students are ELLs.

There is a diversity of languages/dialects spoken at the homes of my students which makes for a culturally diverse classroom.

My students are bright, motivated, empathic, and joyful learners. Most of my students come from working-class families. They also deal with hardships that stem from their socioeconomic status. I want to create a safe and inclusive classroom environment that will allow them to become lifelong lovers of learning and to allow them to dream of dreams that they didn’t think were possible.

My Project

Our students' lives continue to be challenged since the start of COVID-19. Distance learning will create obstacles that I want to make sure they are well equipped to handle.

I will use the supply cases to make kits for each of my students that will hold their necessities to ensure readiness for activities and lessons.

Including sharpers in their kits will ensure that they are prepared for a great day of learning. I will have students use their whiteboards and markers to give me immediate feedback on the content we are going over, through all subject areas. Math can be a little intimidating for some students so, proving them with manipulatives like base ten blocks, will give them the opportunity to include some hands-on learning. These kits will support my students through distance learning.
