Research shows phonic skills are necessary to the reading process. What better way to learn phonics than through comics, books specific to their reading level, and through big books.
I serve twenty-two first grade students who live in the heart of the mountains of Eastern Kentucky.
There is an equal mix of boys to girls. They enjoy listening to books and reading books themselves. They are bright, energetic, and very eager learners.
My Project
I'm requesting two copies of each of the first grade King School Series, a selected set of big books, and phonics books that are comic sets. The King School Series will be added to their take home reading bags as daily reading materials, specific to their reading level. The big books will be used as shared readings, and the phonics will be used as buddy reads.
Being a part of helping students read is such a joy for me.
I love seeing the light bulbs go off on a daily basis. You too can be a part of making this happen for my students by giving the gift of reading to my students.
