Kinesthetic learners have a better memory retention when they're actively doing something while learning, prefer active learning environments where they can move around and engage with the material, and benefit from using movement and physical activity techniques. By doing things, they can physically connect with the concept, which helps with memory retention & skill acquisition. This can lead to better academic performance and greater engagement with the learning process and as a school-based occupational therapist it is my job to assist students in skill acquisitions required for them to participate in their school environment. Part of this includes tailoring treatment sessions to the learning styles of my students. Most of my students have fine motor difficulties which prevents them from engaging in meaningful activities (occupations) required for their role as a student.
It is my goal to provide them with engaging and purposeful activities to improve their fine motor, memory, and visual motor skills to function in a school environment.
