My Project
My 11th grade English students are working hard to read, analyze, and interpret Octavia Butler's Kindred. This novel - the powerful story of a Black woman who finds herself mysteriously traveling back in time to a Maryland planation circa 1815 - is incredible!
Help me make reading Kindred an unforgettable experience for students with diverse learning needs - English Language Learners, Special Education students, and struggling readers - by contributing to the purchase of a class set of the graphic novel version of this literary masterpiece.
This graphic novel is visually stunning and all the text comes from the actual novel. This means that students who are not able to fully access the novel in standard print form will still be able to read and appreciate Butler's writing and construct their own interpretations of the text. Adding the graphic novel means that every student will have the opportunity to engage fully in our class study of this work and that is pretty wonderful!
