My Project

I would love to give my entire school the chance to participate in a fun and creative way to spread kindness throughout our community. They are just learning how to care for others, and I think a project like this would be such a valuable lesson for them. First, we would read the book together to help gain a better understanding of how these decorated rocks could help to brighten up someone’s day. We will then discuss how we will decorate our own rocks to share with the people in our school community.

Our students would be given paint markers and full creative freedom to create anything they want on their rock.

A rainbow, a smiley face, their favorite superhero, or flowers are some examples that can be provided for them. The Mod Podge would be great to seal the rocks to help protect them against the weather. The rolling cart will also be used to display the rocks in that the people in our neighborhood can use, this will be how our students interact as community service helpers. The rocks will be available for the people in our neighborhood to view and take if they enjoy them.

We have a few trees outside of our school that we could add these rocks to. Each class has chosen to take care of a tree as part of our curriculum, and after these rocks are painted and complete, each class will add their rocks to various tree spaces. This will be sure to put a smile on the faces of their fellow schoolmates and teachers. The kindness rocks will also be part of a larger initiative within our neighborhood community, people will be invited to take a rock that speaks to them or brightens their day.
