As a school social worker, I work with students grades 5th and 6th. My students are amazing in so many ways. Although many I work with struggle with a variety of emotional and behavioral difficulties I see them continue each day with hope, determination, and perseverance. Life is full of changes and challenges for this age group. I spend my days teaching them about ways to cope and express themselves in a healthy and productive way.
My goal for this project is to teach my students how small acts of kindness can inspire kindness and compassion community wide.
My Project
In a world filled with so much hate and violence I work every day encouraging and promoting kindness in my school and to my students. Many of them come from homes where this hate and violence is normal. Now is the time to cultivate a community of kindness and compassion! Think about the future we want for our children. Think about where the world will be if we can teach our kids that above all else... be kind.
This project will promote kindness one rock at a time!
When students enter our school we have a big and exciting "house sorting" assembly. Think of it like Harry Potter! Students are placed in one of four houses- Drrhata (means perseverance), Karuna (means kindness), Kinisi (means motivation) and Fidea (means honesty) . My goal with this project to spray paint the rocks the house colors and then have the students write inspiring, encouraging and kind statements on the rocks. When finished we'll set up four locations with a sign explaining the project. The sign with read, "SRA Kindness Rocks Project. The students at Singing River Academy designed these rocks just for you! If you find one that speaks to you take it home with you. If you feel inspired to create one of your own leave them here. Let’s spread kindness in our community one rock at a time!"
My hope is that no matter where you go in Gautier, MS you'll come across a kindness rock to life you up when you need it the most!
