Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The economic hardships that students in a Title I school face already create disadvantages for students, but the last two years have added additional challenges. Where I live in Utah, our schools were closed from March 2020 through the end of the school year due to COVID-19. This year, we have had remote learning, quarantines, and COVID-related restrictions in the classroom. My 1st grade students are resilience champs! They haven't let any of this get them down, and continue to try their hardest each and every day. But, the fact remains, COVID has affected their learning in multiple ways, and they need to catch up.
My Project
In today's world, Social Emotional Learning skills are needed now more than ever and yet most schools/districts do not provide this curriculum. The act of being kind increases serotonin, which plays an important part in learning, memory, mood, sleep, health and digestion, kindness is a key ingredient that helps children feel good. Having a positive outlook allows them greater attentions spans and enables more creative thinking to produce better results at school.
I want to teach my students positive behaviors and create a healthy productive learning environment for all of my students.
