Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is filled with adorable second graders, who are ready to learn and excited to be at school each day.
I work at a small Title I school located in Southern California.
A majority of my students receive free or reduced-priced lunch and come from households where English isn't their first language. We are a Kinder through 6th grade AVID school, where we focus on getting students college and career ready. Resources are limited at my school but we always come together and make it work for our students.
My Project
As educators it is important to teach beyond our grade level standards. Early childhood experiences have an impact on who a child becomes. My goal for this project is to teach my students importance of kindness. Our school is a PBIS school with focus on positive behavior supports for our students. One of our school rules is to be kind. I plan to use these character development books frequently throughout the school year to help build a strong classroom community. These books will address experiences that students face often such as bullying, teasing, loneliness, making friends, sharing, and individuality. These read-alouds will be easy to grab the attention of my students because they will be able relate to the characters. These books will allow for us to have important class discussions on difficult life situations. Through our group time students will be able to share stories, come up with solutions, provide feedback to others and learn what to do in everyday situations.
