Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Every year, the kiddos engage in helping our community through projects that help them see the world through other people’s eyes. It is our goal to learn how to be compassionate to others who are less fortunate than them. My 5th grade kiddos would love to give back to people within our school community who are less fortunate by providing food, supplies, stress items, Valentines treats and snacks through a student-created center.

After learning about compassion and being able to see through the eyes of others by engaging in a series of activities, lessons, and discussions, the students will create an appealing in-class help center.

They'd be in charge of storing, organizing and labeling items in the center and advertising items that will be available to all students in the school community who would be in need of a snack, school supplies and even mental health items (stress gadgets and items).

The kiddos would make it their mission to have compassion for those in need as they fight food insecurities and/or are lacking the items they need to succeed in school by inviting them to our center. Creating this center will help our kiddos fulfill the needs of others. In order to measure students’ success in learning about compassion my students will provide a student created questionnaire to those who visit the center on which they express their feelings after their visit. These will be posted in the hallway bulletin board for all to see. This project will encourage the kiddos to think about others , exhibit compassion for those less fortunate and enable them to see through the eyes of all schoolmates.
