Imagine moving to a new country. You haven't learned to read or write yet, and you have this smiling teacher talking to you in a language you don't understand. These are some of the students I teach every day. I teach in a middle school that services a wide variety of students, including recent immigrants and homeless students. We also have a high number of students who are part of the free breakfast and lunch program.
Despite hardships, most of my students are excited and eager to learn.
My curriculum doesn't just include reading and writing; we also look at relevant world and community events. My students work toward being productive and compassionate citizens of this technological age.
My Project
Our school has started a Kindness Club. These students work so hard to do things for others. These seemingly unimportant items will help this club immensely.
For instance, the magnet box will be used to create inspirational magnets kids could put on lockers.
The beads and string will be used to make everything from bracelets to quilts that will be given to organizations like veterans and retirement homes. Even the Chinese take-out containers will be used as fun containers.
It is not always easy to help middle school students think of others, and this club does that in a way that makes helping fun. There is no doubt that your donation will ensure that this wonderful club will be able to continue.
