My Students
Our school is nestled in the countryside of North Carolina. We are outside of the military base and have many military families at our school, which adds to the cultural diversity and uniqueness of our school population.
We are a small, rural, Title I school outside of a military base, in which many students rely on free and reduced-price lunch and breakfast here at school.
Our school is more of a family and has a strong community feeling of love and support and inclusion. We incorporate many different learning strategies, group and collaborative work, and independent studies at our school.
We have begun a STEAM lab at our school and are working to develop students' problem-solving skills and collaborative work skills through the design process. They really are an incredible group of kids who are excited to learn and push themselves daily.
My Project
These past years have been difficult for our kiddos. Kids thrive under structure and order and the pandemic, going remote, hybrid classrooms, always being prepared to switch back to remote, wearing masks, worrying about getting sick... all of this has our students' emotional and mental health struggling.
With this project my students will create Kindness Bags that they will use to fill with compliments and kind words to their classmates.
My class and I are focusing on looking for the good, seeking the good, and being the good and this project will be perfect! I know it will bring my class joy and help remind them that no matter what, there is always good in the world and that they can be a part of that good.
