Picture books about emotion and social-emotional issues can help kids think deeply about feelings and social issues and teach them to help alleviate the suffering of others or help those in need!
By providing explicit instruction in social and emotional learning (SEL), I can reinforce these lessons using literature children can relate to through the use of these picture books.
The books I chose, My Magical Choices and I Am A Tornado, will help students learn to see the world through the eyes of others. The books will also help children understand how one person's problem-solving and innovation can be seen and felt around the world.
The chart paper will capture and maintain students' attention and act as reference points, helping students to understand and recall concepts that were taught more effectively. When charts are co-created with students, the information belongs more to students, and therefore, the information is more accessible and meaningful to them. The LCD Writing Tablet Doodle Boards will be also be utilized during our SEL lessons so I'll be able to gauge students' comprehension of what is being taught and discussed.
In conclusion, the items I am requesting will help me to teach students to see the world through the eyes of others. I'll be able to gauge students' comprehension and application of compassion through their demonstrated acts of kindness, compassion, and support towards others in class or on the playground, listening to them proudly share and discuss their actions, deeds, or stories in our daily morning circles, as well as see the impact of their supportive behavior towards their peers in our classroom.
