Kindles Make Learning Fun

My students need Kindles to practice needed educational skills and to take Accelerated Reader tests.

My Students

The students at my school are from a diverse demographic. The school itself is located in a small farming community. Students come from many different economic levels. Some students have no books or a quiet place to read at home.

I teach reading to students who are achieving below their current grade level.

All of these students are on a Plan of Reading Improvement determined by benchmark testing and are submitted to the Oklahoma State Department of Education as needing extra interventions during the school day. With limited materials, I am left with very few options that will inspire children to read. As the Reading Specialist, I feel that it is my job to cultivate a love of reading in all students.

My Project

My class currently has 8 Kindles available for my students to use. Sometimes the students have to share and it gets tricky. Two more Kindles would make that an infrequent occurrence.

The students use Kindles to practice Reading and Math skills through various educational apps.

Also, my students use Kindles to take Accelerated Reader tests on books they have read. Comprehension is one of the five Components of Reading. Accelerated Reading is a wonderful program that encourages comprehension skills through a points system. Students are motivated by many factors including rewards and points towards their goals. Classroom parties are held for those students who reach their goals.
