This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Inspiring a love of reading and math is one of my true passions as a first grade teacher! Through centers, including technology focused learning, the students will be engaged in meaningful learning that will allow me small group time to help them succeed.

I teach at a Title 1 school and have many students who come from low income families.

Our classroom and school provides a safe place to learn and grow. My first graders love to learn, and school is like a second home. First graders are like little "sponges", and are eager to "soak" up new information and to learn all they can. We truly become a family, learning together and working cooperatively. Our school has many volunteers, including parents and community members, who help support us in and out of the classroom.

My Project

Our classroom currently has only one computer, and that is my teacher computer. My entire class goes to the computer lab only once a week. By having Kindle fires, several children can be working on sight word and math apps,or be engaged in educational math and reading websites to help with reading and math skills.

Having technology available will also help me to individualize instruction for students.

Students come into first grade reading at many different levels. Some are only learning letter sounds, while others are reading chapter books. Having websites and apps available on Kindle Fires will help me meet the needs of all of my students in a hands on and engaging way.
