I am a teacher in a rural area Title I school. I have 22 students that come from various backgrounds. Although the school-wide percent of low income families is only 50%, 78% of my students, come from low income families. My class also consists of special education students and students with ADHD who need differentiated instruction and visuals. My students love using technology and have been very successful with it. Unfortunately, we do not have funding for extra technology and we lack sufficient devices for them to use.
The best way to keep my diverse learners focused and engaged is through the way they love best; technology.
OSMO has been helping my students by giving them differentiated and creative assignments that they can be successful at. This success builds their confidence and allows them to face obstacles head on! Technology also allows my students with disabilities, such as ADHD, to focus more attentively and stay on task. We simply need more devices in the classroom so that all students can use it when they want to. Having Kindles would be greatly appreciated and give more opportunities for students to benefit from the OSMO.
My Project
All of my students will greatly benefit from having a Kindle with OSMO in the classroom, but my struggling students will find the much needed multi-sensory leaning they need that comes from technology connected with Osmo.
The donations to this project will help my students advance in skills like science, math, visual thinking, problem solving, spelling, and creative drawing while playing Osmo.
The lessons in Osmo enable the Kindle to merge the power of physical play with the digital advantages of real-time feedback. Playing beyond the screen invites my students to collaborate while manipulating tangible game pieces such as coding blocks, number tiles, and letter tiles. The educational benefits from the interactive games help strengthen my students’ classroom skills such as science, math, literacy, and social studies. I have noticed that using these games improves their social and communication skills, as well. They learn to play cooperatively and to work as a team, and for my students with ADHD, it allows their focus to be enhanced and they are more on task. Therefore, using Kindles and OSMO is a great way to nurture resilience in my active learners and allow them to embrace challenges.
