My classroom is filled with a group of very diverse and inquisitive 6th graders. Their abilities, needs, and interests cover a wide range. Within my class I have special needs students, English Language Learners, talented and gifted, and everything in between. Many of these students come from low income households where technology as well as basic needs are limited. For many of them coming to school and accessing the curriculum is a challenge, which often leads to frustration and disengagement and unfortunately absenteeism is an issue.
My Project
My students will use these tablets daily to reinforce skills and concepts in a new and exciting way. They will allow me to differentiate learning activities and incorporate technology into daily lessons. My visual learners and EL students will be able to comprehend material that they previously struggled with. At the same time these tablets will be able to enhance and enrich curriculum for my TAG students. All of my students will be able to work on their own level and master math and science skills. My students are oftentimes disengaged to learning activities and unmotivated. These tablets will increase their engagement and make learning new and exciting for my students. So many of my students do not have access to technology at home and the use of technology here at school is very limited due to district funding. These tablets will be the only opportunity for several of students in increase their technological awareness in a tech savvy world. I plan to use these devices for small group work. My students will be able to collaborate and share their thinking and learning all while engaging in the curriculum. They will be excited about learning and motivated to come to school. My hope is to create lifelong learners, and these tablets will bring me one step closer.
