Help me give my students Kindle covers to protect our new Kindles, headphones for listening to fluent reading and locking file cabinets to be used for storage. The Cricut machine will be used to enhance academic projects.
Resource Centers service students from Kindergarten through fifth grade with a variety of learning and behavioral needs that could benefit from alternative learning experiences. My students struggle academically and socially and behaviorally and we are looking for ways to make the Resource Room less traditional in order to give students the opportunity to shine in alternative ways and settings. These materials will be used year after year with our students across grade levels and Resource Centers. We have four Resource Centers that work to create programs that meet the needs of all learners.
My Project
In our Resource Centers, students traditionally struggle in reading and read at least a year below their same age peers. Kindles will offer them an alternative reading experience. They will enable us to develop a digital library at a variety of reading levels that also contain a variety of genres to be matched appropriately to students.
Our intention is to utilize Kindles with our students to help them move from less words on a page supported by pictures to more traditional chapter books.
The covers will help us use them year after year and allow students to utilize them outside of our classrooms to promote independence. And because the books are digital their same age peers will not see the level at which they are reading. The headphones will allow the Kindles to also be used as audible readers! Our students will be thrilled and it will allow us to push them to do the hard word they need to do to overcome their academic struggles.
The Cricut machine and accessories are to be used to support projects in our classroom and outside it. Our students often produce work that is less than grade level expectations. The Cricut will allow them to do something extra special to make their work attractive and special.
