Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a Title I, K-5 magnet school that educates almost 700 students each year. The students at my school come from a wide range of family dynamics. Some live in traditional households, while others live with single parents or extended family. My students' economic situations are just as varied as their family dynamics and more than sixty percent of our school qualifies for free lunch.
A large percentage of our school population consists of English language learners.
Seventy-five percent of my class speaks more than one language and often English is not spoken when they are at home. Regardless of these factors, every one of my students always possess a passion for learning, exploring, and creating.
My Project
It's no secret that kids love technology and they love dramatic play. What better way to get them engaged in literacy, science, and social studies than by combining the two! I am requesting a GoPro camera and a green screen. Green screens are a fun and innovative way to teach oral communication and presentation skills.
A GoPro and a green screen will allow us to learn and apply 21st century technology skills as we make videos to showcase the amazing learning that happens in Kindergarten.
I envision my students creating weather reports as we learn about weather and seasons. Imagine a 5 year old dressed in rain gear giving a "remote" report from the latest area where a hurricane made landfall. Each year our last unit of study is called Animals, Animals Everywhere. I envision students being able to "report" about animals from each habitat studied! A GoPro and green screen will bring learning to life! I am also requesting an extra battery and case to ensure we are always ready to roll!
