Help me give my students who come from low income and single parent homes tablets to use at home to support school learning in reading and coding using Smarty Ants and Scratch Jr apps and more.
These students are enthusiastic and eager to learn. They are kind to their peers and love going to school. They are always respectful and helpful in class. These students are all special because they all come from low income families and have one parents raising them.
All 5 of these students are novice or emerging English Learners, have a significant desire to learn to read and code, and try their best in school.
More that anything, they would love to have a tablet to use at home to use Smarty Ants (the learn to read app) and Scratch Jr (the coding app).
My Project
There is a need, in order to give all my students a fair and equal chance to have an opportunity to one day potentially obtain a job in a STEM field. I want to provide the opportunity for every student in my class to not only learn to code (using Scratch Jr app) & read (using the app Smarty Ant) at school but to also be able to practice coding & reading skills at home, too.
When I talked to each parent during Back to School Night, I found out 5 students had a need for a tablet to use at home.
I found out all 5 of these students were economically disadvantaged. Since all 5 of these students are English Language Learners, it is difficult for the parents who are also limited English Speakers to give the support and help at home needed for their child to practice reading skills. Having a tablet for each of these 5 students will give them a fair chance to learn these important life long skills.
