I have a dynamic kindergarten class that consists of 27 highly energized, curious and active students that need to come to school every day! Our school is located in an area that is economically challenging for many families. All of my students receive free breakfast and lunch. We are a Title I funded school, located in the South side of Los Angeles.
My students need and welcome any resources they can get, to make their kindergarten experience engaging, germ free and to support academic enrichment.
For this New Years project, we need cleaning supplies for our classroom. Many students come to school sneezing and coughing all day. We need to keep the desks, sinks, floors and door handles free from germs and clean hands! Clorox cleaning products, as well as other resources, continuously keep their work spaces clean. All of my students are eager to keep the room clean and healthy. Helping them to take responsibility, builds morale and independence. Because of the weather, they are often in doors all day and always want healthy snacks to keep them fueled and energized. Their kinder days are long, and hunger is always an issue! I still have a lot of kids who bring very unhealthy, sugary snacks daily. Introducing them to healthy alternatives will improve their home choices and energy levels at school.
They enjoy working on art activities and other means of displaying their talents while feeling energized from good snacks in a germ free environment.
Scissors, colored paper, markers and reading wristbands are great incentives to keep them focused and give them practice using their fine motor skills. Students will create pictures and display how we keep our room clean, to post around the room. We need ink for our computer, so the students poems and writing activities, about taking care of their health, and healthy snacks ideas for home, can be printed as well! All of these supplies will be used daily, with great gratitude, in helping us start off this year strong!
