I teach in a very diverse community. We are both socioeconomically and culturally diverse. Many of my kinders have not gone to preschool and haven't had many experiences. I LOVE teaching kindergarten because they are so eager to learn and their faces light up with each accomplishment! They love hands-on activities that allow them to explore and become independent problem solvers. We encourage having a growth mindset: learning from our mistakes and don't give up! They are eager to please and still have the love for learning. We work hard to establish a solid foundation! Kindergarten ROCKS!
My Project
Kindergarten is the foundation for our early learners. Since many of my kinder friends have not been to preschool, I need to provide them with a vast array of experiences. It is important to be able to provide them with multiple learning opportunities that are engaging and holds a child's attention. We will utilize the materials in a multitude of settings; whole group, guided groups, partner work, and one-on-one with the teacher. These tools will be used during our reader's and writer's workshops, literacy work stations, guided phonics lessons, as well as our guided reading and writing lessons. Kindergarten children LOVE to learn to read and write because they see that it opens many other learning situations for them.
