This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Though its hard to believe, budget cuts in our big inner city school district have led to janitorial cuts that means our classrooms do not get vacuumed anymore! GROSS! The carpet that my 20 adorable Kindergartners sit on for hours a day has been ruined by neglect!
Although the vast majority come from low socio-economic backgrounds and are eligible for the free lunch program, all of my students come to school eager and motivated to learn!
Many of these students come from homes where hand-me-downs for clothes to carpets are the norm. These students deserve, at the very least, to sit on a clean carpet when they get to school!
My Project
I am requesting a brightly colored, 8x9 classroom carpet with a different colored square for each student. I am also requesting a portable vacuum I can use everyday after school to keep this carpet in tip-top shape. The carpet is stain resistant and designed for an early elementary classroom so it will be easy to maintain for years to come.
All students, regardless of their economic background, deserve a decent, well maintained classroom materials.
