Kindergarteners Need To Play!

My Students

I teach a group of 24 amazing Kindergarteners at a Title I school in New Haven where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. They are an enthusiastic bunch who love to talk and learn from each other! For many of my students, Kindergarten is their first experience in a formal classroom setting.

Each of my 24 students brings a unique background and set of experiences to our classroom community!

As a teacher, I work to build a community that builds lifelong learners. Every student, no matter their background, is capable of succeeding and making their mark on the world!

My Project

In order to meet the needs of all students in the classroom, we are putting play back into the kindergarten classroom! The focus of our play will be the community. We were lucky enough to have a dollhouse donated to us, but we still need furniture and dolls.

The furniture and dolls will allow students to use their imagination and role-play different ways to be members of their home and school community.

Imagination and role-playing lead to problem-solving and higher-order thinking skills.

The doorbell will be used to signal transitions during play. One bell will be used to signal rotation changes and one bell will be used to signal cleanup. This will allow for smooth transitions.
