Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Kindergarten is such an important year for children. We are lacking in the resources we need to support our reading and writing!
Our school services a severely low-income area.
Many of my students have had little to no prior experience with a school setting or even with a book! Despite the challenges, they come to school eager to learn and ready to do their best. Our reading and writing program inspires them to learn how to do these things well. Without a solid foundation in these literacy skills, they are less likely to complete high-school and will have a difficult journey through their entire lives.
My Project
With the support of authentic literature, my students will be inspired to read and write. We first learn how to read and write by watching others do so - and by reading the work of authors and writers whom have gone before us. These books will support every facet of our literacy instruction and will serve to aid my students in becoming readers and writers. We model writing for our students and use read-alouds as an integral part of our daily instruction.
We are all here because at some point in our lives, we were inspired to do more.
My students need that same motivation and inspiration and your support will greatly benefit not only this class and this generation of students, but future classes and children as well. This foundation will not only change their lives, but the lives of their families!
