Kindergarteners Learn as Animals Grow!

My students need animal habitat kits to learn about life cycles and create their own homes for animals and insects.

My Students

I teach kindergarten at a Title 1 school and my classroom consists of a variety of students. My classroom includes PEC, EIP, and gifted students. Many of my kindergarten students have a short attention span and I work hard to make learning fun. My students love to move and they love to be involved in their own learning.

My students have big hearts, open minds, and are willing to experiment as they learn and grow!

They love animals! The opportunity to watch animals grow and change daily will be so exciting for my students! This will allow them to truly become focused on their learning.

My Project

My students are very curious and I like to give them many opportunities to be hands on learners. With this grant my students could watch frogs, butterflies, ladybugs, ants, and worms grow and develop. My students will use journals to write, draw, and color their observations daily.

After we have observed and documented the life cycle of each animal, my students will build their own animal habitats!

We will examine the models purchased with this grant and use the center activities to practice sorting and comparing animals and insects. My students will use modeling clay, netting, tape, and classroom materials to design and create an insect or animal and a replica of its habitat. Then my students will have an opportunity to share their engineering skills with our class! They will have an amazing time with this real-world learning experience. The habitats can be used again with future students.
