Each day is a new learning experience not only for my students, but for me as well! I am excited to start another kindergarten school year with a classroom full of curious, energetic and enthusiastic learners! For many, this will be their first time in a school setting, first time following directions from another adult, sitting at a table or on the carpet waiting patiently for instructions or their turn to talk, sharing with others, following routines and being away from their parents. I want all of my students to feel comfortable, happy and develop a true passion for learning.
They will happily sing and dance; proudly draw pictures and tell stories; build structures, and pretend play.
In addition, they will read letters, words, sentences and books; write letters, words and sentences to go along with their drawings; count to 100 and add numbers to 10; rhyme; interact with each other to problem solve; and so much more, everyday!
The method and environment in which they learn will vary greatly.
Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating. They almost always make good choices in where they sit and are more engaged in what they are working on. The balance balls will allow the students movement to increase blood flow to the brain, helping to improve concentration and increase focus, and reduce restlessness by keeping the body active and the mind engaged!
