My Students

My kindergartners are creating life-long friendships. They are learning to collaborate, build social skills, problem-solve, and develop creativity and discovering who they are as individuals. They are eager to explore the world around them through purposeful play.

The students in my classroom come from a rural community with diverse backgrounds, cultures, and socioeconomic statuses.

Many students are learning English for the first time and rely on school programs for food and clothing.

While students may enter school with limited experiences, when these young learners step into the classroom, I believe they each have unlimited potential and deserve, rich, hands-on learning experiences to help shape their future!

My Project

I am asking for a variety of science resources including a complete set of easy-view early science specimens, a complete set of hands-on science specimen centers, a real bugs discovery kit, and some books. My students will explore and discover the attributes and body parts of insects by holding specimens and examining them with a magnifying glass. We will read informational text such as "A Bee's Life" and "Going Buggy"! to research facts about insects. Students will sort insects and spiders and be able to explain the difference.

Things are going to get Buggy in Kindergarten and these requested materials will complement our unit about insects and our observations as we care for ants, pill bugs and lady bugs.

Through building my students background knowledge they will become more sensitive and aware of the insects in our natural environment.
