This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I would not normally ask for things that I need in my classroom because I usually buy the things that I need myself. This specific item is too costly for my budget. I am asking for a donation of a small child size kitchen for dramatic play. The principal is funding for four new kindergarten classes and they will be fully furnished. The classes already existing don't receive a single cent from that budget. My classroom is in South Gate, CA. It is a predominantly lower income, Latino community. My students are in need of some dramatic play. The small size kitchen is perfect for social interaction between the students. They develop their socialization as well as oral language skills. It's the one place where students pretend they are adults. They pretend they are on the phone, pretend to cook, wash dishes, have dinner, put away groceries, and simply pretend they are the responsible caretakers of their home and family. If my wish is granted, my 20 students will benefit from this dramatic play everyday! All my future students will also benefit from this long life gift because that is exactly what this is. Imagine how many childhood memories are going to be born! Don't you remember playing house in kindergarten? Since this kitchen will be housed inside, it should last anywhere from 15 to 20 years! Possibly more! Please help our youngest students develop oral language skills, socialization, and basic communication skills. Most of all, help them create some of the their first school childhood memories.
