Each day my students receive free breakfast and lunch to ensure that they have eaten that day. Several of them have weekend take-home bags filled by the school to ensure that they have food to eat on non-school days, and they know they can ask me for "extras" to take home during the week. Knowing that young brains need well-fed tummies in order to work properly, I keep breakfasts on hand for students who may arrive late and give a daily whole-class snack.
Tummies are hungry every day, and I want my littles to have fun exploring food rather than just worrying about when they will next have some.
I try to keep sugar intake minimal and brain-boosting power high by offering filling, tasty treats, and fresh produce from the community daily. While I hate that individually-packaged snacks are more expensive, I have to use them this year due to COVID-19 restrictions. No child should be distracted at school by hunger regardless of the circumstances around us. Thank you for ensuring that my students' tummies are well-fed so they can do their best learning!
