This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have twenty students in my class and teaching kindergarten this year is not your typical year. My students and I have been virtual since August. My students are so resilient and have defied the odds by living through a pandemic while coming to class each day ready to learn and interact with their peers. One area that continues to be of need is Phonics.

Having the Orton Gillingham Resources and hands on manipulatives will allow my stundets the opportunity to have access to a systematic approach to phonics.

For most of my students, kindergarten is their first experience in a classroom setting. These resources will allow them to have access to developmentally appropriate practice all while learning in our classroom environment.

My Project

These materials will assist me in build a strong foundation for my students to become avid readers and writers. The materials include teacher manuals that provide lessons and strategies to support all students and specifically those that struggle academically. The Teachers Pay Teachers Gift Card will allow me to purchase supplies that will assist me in teaching my students using the Science of Reading approach to supporting my students to becoming avid readers. Utilizing all of the supplies will allow me to smoothly build our classroom activities to those that the students can complete at home with their families.

My goal is to provide my students with a strong phonological and phonemic awareness foundation to help them succeed in literacy.
