“Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.” This quote, by Benjamin Franklin, describes the classroom environment that I create for my energetic and enthusiastic students. Kindergarten is a busy place with active hands-on learning and happy smiles from students who love to learn and have fun!
My students are engaged and successful learners.
I create a positive environment where every child feels loved, valued, and important every day! I work diligently to meet the social and academic needs of every student. My students love to be greeted every morning as they come into class. They see my smile, hear my laugh, and watch my ever-moving Converse sneakers, as I move around the room to start another day of joyful learning.
My kindergarten students meet daily in a small group with me for guided reading instruction. The students read a book a day at their level and then take that book home to read it again to their families. I would also like my students to be able to take home an extra book at their level each night to strengthen their skills. I'm requesting 60 books at different reading levels for my students to take home nightly to reinforce and practice their reading skills.
To become a stronger reader, students need to simply read, read, and read.
When students are just beginning to learn to read, there are not many, or if any, leveled books at the local library. By providing students with two books a night, I hope to see my kindergarten students, not only excel in reading, but also fall in love with reading and the magic of books!
