This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My kindergarten students are eager to learn and explore each day when they enter my classroom. They enjoy learning letters and beginning to read and write on their own along with math, science, and social studies skills. The students are motivated and want to learn more. My classroom is also a community where each student supports the others and helps them along the way.
Not only are we working on the academic standards, but we are also working on 21st century skills along with communication, critical thinking, collaboration, and critical thinking.
I am always so amazed with how much they grow each year. I teach at a Title 1 school where 100% of the students receive free lunch. Many of my students are also second language learners.
My Project
My students love to use SeeSaw (an online portfolio) to document their learning and show their families what they have been learning and working on in class from language arts and math to science and social studies. The families also enjoy seeing what we are doing in the classroom. We also use SeeSaw Blogs to connect with other classes and other districts. It is a great platform for us to make our thinking visible and bring others into our classroom. The phone handsets will help us to record without background noise. My students are experts at how to use SeeSaw, but my room is big and sound echos. Often times when a student records there is so much background noise that the student needs to redo it or you can barely hear the student speaking with other students working in the background.
Phones will help us to be able to record without worrying about background noise, so our families can hear what we are explaining.
The iPad stand will help my kindergarten students be able to make stop motion animation movies. I know they are capable, but they need a way to keep the iPad from moving. They will start out by making movies such as how to spell the sight words or creating shapes. I'm sure they will be inspired and creative and create other types of stop motion movies as well. Having the stand will give them the opportunity to be creative and learn how to make the movies.
Overall, the phones and iPad stand will allow my students to better use technology and incorporate it throughout the day. They will also give my students the opportunity to use technology to create art while showing their learning in all subject areas.
