Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are my children. My classroom consists of 25 children from all different backgrounds. I have a large percent of beginner English Language Learners. The rest of my class consists of students with special needs and general education students.

More importantly my students are funny, energetic, creative, frustrated, shy, silly, curious, but most of all resilient.

All the diversity makes for a great teaching experience, but it also makes it difficult to meet the various needs of the students in my classroom.

Every morning I start fresh and do my best to reach the needs, whatever they may be, of each child. My school has a very large population of low, socio-economic students. My school is a title one school. Many of the children live in shelters and live in large multi -generational households. It would be awesome to give all these children the opportunity to meet their optimal potential.

My Project

All the different school supplies requested in this project will make an immediate difference in the lives of my students. We will get to use the supplies right away. They will use them across the curriculum in literacy, math, writing, social studies, art, and science.

The right school supplies will make my students thrive.

I have come to understand how important it is for a child to have ample supply of developmental appropriate school materials. In my classroom, there is always various types work going on. My students are writing, reading, drawing, investigating, and learning. The diversity of my class means I need to provide all type of materials to meet their specific needs or learning styles.

Supplies such as triangular crayons and pencils will help my students with occupational therapy needs. Primary notebooks allow the children to illustrate their writing. Storage bins will help keep our classroom neat and organized. Homework folders will help the children keep their homework neat and allow me to communicate daily with their families. Children love to work in partnerships and in small groups. A class set of clip boards for my 25 students will keep them engaged and allow for work to be done while sitting on the floor.

As an early childhood educator, it is my mission to make my students welcomed, loved, and happy. There are many challenges that come along with working at a title one school, having enough school supplies should not be one of them. Children love to learn and with these supplies they will be motivated to write more, read more, and create elaborate art projects. These aspects of kindergarten; the love of school and the eagerness to learn is why it is so important to have a vibrant,organized, full classroom ready to go from the start.
