My Students

My kids are awesome! They are creative, inspiring, capable and valuable little people. Every year we begin with most not knowing the alphabet, sounds or how to hold a pencil. Yet, in 180 school days they become amazing readers, writers, mathematicians and scientists. The school I work at is a Title I population and I already know that asking them to spend their hard earned money on school supplies will put a definite strain on their family's budget. They are hardworking, lovely, caring families who want the best for their children, but their budgets are extremely low.

My Project

It is a sad day in education when you hear that your budget for next year is going to be cut by $75,000. One of the ways our school is trying to maximize our funds is to ask parents to purchase their kindergartner's school supplies. When I met with some incoming parents and asked them to bring the school supplies, the looks on their faces told me that it would be nearly impossible to purchase these items for next year. The items I need funded (large & small crayons, markers, highlighters, pens, paper, folders, glue, dry erase markers) are all used for learning to write through Writers Workshop, Math and Science through different mediums and Visual Art projects. Children in the population I serve, usually come to kindergarten without basic skills and it takes a lot of time and materials to help them master all the standards. I would like to purchase these items in bulk so that I can use them for several years. I am reaching out to this community in hopes that you could fund my students' school supplies for the next 3 years.
