This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We all have memories of trips we took as children. Field trips tend to be the highlight of one's elementary school days.
Our students are diverse and they all strive to be "civic-minded leaders, accomplished writers, and resilient lifelong learners."
We are a K-8, charter school in an urban area. Becoming lifelong learners means building a love for learning. My students enjoy hands-on activities in which they can interact with others. They also enjoy collaborating and creating together in STEAM activities.
My Project
Transportation to the San Diego Humane Society will provide my students with a field trip that will be incredibly meaningful in their service learning project. Our students collaborate yearly to complete an ongoing project in which they learn about the humane treatment of animals, discuss, collaborate, and reflect throughout the process, and then present to others ways what they've learned as advocates for animals. During this field trip, students will have the opportunity to visit the Humane Society and learn about animal issues, character traits, and animal care. The lessons taught on-site by the Humane Society are aligned with Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards. Our students will get a behind-the-scenes look at how the team cares and advocates for our local animal population.
