My students need toys such as jack-in-the-boxes and kaleidoscopes, scented stickers and scratch art materials, in addition to books to stimulate and teach about the five senses.
My Kindergarten students are curious and energetic and they need materials that will provide hands-on experiences to prepare them to think as scientists.
My Kindergarten science students are primarily English Language Learners.
The beginning of the school year is a big challenge for many of them because it is the first time they are learning in a structured school environment, and for a majority of them, it is the first time they are encountering English.
My Project
Students will use the books and toys to learn first-hand about their five senses. They will engage in play with these multi-sensory toys and become aware of their ability to observe and explore. Students will delight at the sounds and surprise of the jack-in-the-box, be captivated by the colors they create in their scratch art drawings, enjoy the texture and scents of the scratch and sniff stickers, and be mesmerized by the designs they create with the kaleidoscope. These experiences will not only create an interest in sensory discovery, but will help prepare them to use these skills in scientific observation and experimentation.
Your donation will help our Kindergarteners to have a positive early experience in Science and prepare them for hands-on learning at a higher academic level.
You will help peak their interest in science and help them to make connections between what they already know how to do (play) and academic learning.
